Vacancy Description

Kakamega County is one of the 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. It borders Vihiga County to the south, Siaya County to the West, Bungoma County to the North and Nandi County to the East. The county covers an area of 3050.3 Km2 (Kakamega CDP, 2013). The altitude of the county is between 1,240 metres and 2,000 metres above sea level.

Pursuant to the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, the County Government of Kakamega invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions.

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – ICT

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Carpentry and Joinery

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Agribusiness

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Fashion Design and Garment Marking

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Metal Processing

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Plumbing

POLYTECHNIC INSTRUCTORS – Building Construction

Terms of Service: One (1) year renewable contract, based on performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The instructors will report to the Principal of the County Polytechnic and be responsible for:

a) Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and give lecture notes;

b) Strict adherence to curriculum in instructing leaners in the course/trade area;

c) Prepare internal exams and carry out continuous assessment;

d) Supervise and assess trainee(s) in the course area;

e) Prepare trainees for external exams by providing practical technical skills as required for effective competency acquisition;

f) Carry out examination and competence based assessment;

g) Ensuring leaners participate in co-curriculum activities; and

h) Maintain tools and equipment.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must: –

a) Be a Kenyan citizen;

b) Have a Craft Certificate/ Government Grade Test 1 in any of the fields listed above:

c) Possession of a Diploma in the relevant technical area where applicable, will be an added advantage;

d) Certificate in Pedagogy (Teaching Strategies) will be an added advantage;

e) Relevant teaching experience of at least one (1) year will be an added advantage; and

f) Demonstrate professional competence in the technical area.
