Empowering Women with a unique voice that enables them to actively participate in promoting peace, conflict resolution and preventing extreme radicalization.
Women (including young women) are often excluded from peace and counter-radicalization processes in Kenya due to existing power imbalances and gender stereotypes. The lack of community-led safe fora for dialogue on human rights and gender based violence with expert opinions is a great hindrance to the efforts on protection of women and indeed their entire communities against human rights abuses. Inequality and economic disparities in communities, coupled by the lack of adequate funding and support for grassroot organisations makes sustainable impact difficult for them to achieve. Women, despite their influential role in society are unfortunately largely ignored in most conflict and human rights programming.
Women need to be coolbrought on board and given capacity and resources to enable them reach out to other women and the youth with Human rights and peacebuilding initiatives. SAUTI Kenya is a program designed to strengthen the role of women in peace, security and governance. The project will work towards building sustainable county-level capacities of women led civil society actors, female student leaders, community influencers, and common interest groups that focus on peace and counter radicalization for effective promotion of human rights and conflict management in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu counties.
